I was gone last week, the Alabama Association of Polygraph Examiners had our annual conference in Orange Beach. A great time as usual and I finally met Ron Decker, a legend in polygraph in this area. He spoke at the conference and later I talked with him briefly in the hospitality room.I hated to see all of the drama at the anti site while I was gone, but it just shows how far you all have pushed George over the edge. I downloaded Dr. Rovner's polygraph and had my IT guys burn it to audio disc and I listened to it during my drive to the beach. It was invaluable to me to listen to someone with so much experience. I feel like I picked up as much from Dr. Rovner as I learned at the conference. You can talk data to me all day long, but to sit there and listen to a polygrapher with so much experience is invaluable. I told you all that I was new to polygraph so I take help where I can get it. Thanks Dr. Rovner, I picked up quite a few tips. I thought conducting my own polygraphs was boring, sit through someone else's! Well worth it, though. I have applied for membership with the AAPP and I was wondering who else here was a member. The other polygrapher at our department is a member of the APA, which I plan to join after he retires next year, so I wanted to join a seperate association now so we could share info from both associations. Yes, we are cheap in Alabama. I don't personally know anyone who is a member of the AAPP and I had a couple of questions. The conference this year is in Jacksonville, Fl., which is wonderful because that is driving distance for me, but I wondered if the conference is there every year, or does that vary? I am also curious about the forensic certification offered by the AAPP. Glad to be back, I enjoy keeping up with your conversations. Rick IP: Logged |

Both the APA and the AAPP hold their conferences in different locations each year. This year AAPP was in New Mexico, and next year it's in Jacksonville, and the year after that is Lake Tahoe. The NPA holds its seminar in Las Vegas each January (I think it's January). They run three days, and they keep it cheap. I've never been (only so much money here too), but they bring in some good speakers. Some of the local associations put on some good training too. (I think Taylor posts the Utah seminars here just to make me jealous.) APA will be in Indianapolis next year. I'm a member of both organizations as are many people here. The organizations are different, and different people will like different aspects of each. I will tell you that there is nothing like the camaraderie you find at AAPP seminars. I learn more there "after hours" than in most seminars, but both organizations bring in some great instructors. With that said, get to whatever seminars you can. You can never have too many friends in the polygraph community. As far as watching another experienced examiner (or any good investigator for that matter) goes, you can pick up a lot from doing so. I don't think I do anything original. I've "appropriated" everything from somebody else - a lot of "somebody elses." Just be careful not to pick up any bad habits. Don't be afraid to pick up the phone or write emails either. Most examiners (and Lou is very much included) are more than happy to give you useful advice, tips and pointers. IP: Logged |

APA will be in my hometown of Indianapolis Arch. I will try to make it to that one, but I have some grocery shopping to do on that day (lol). I might be a presenter----speaking on the best way traveling examiners can avoid getting crabs from cheap hotel bathrooms. I look forward to seeing (hopefully) many of you in person for the first time. However, Indy's August humidity will require scuba gear. I look forward to seeing many of you! I'll be the well-rested LOCAL man in the bathrobe and slippers.[This message has been edited by stat (edited 10-30-2007).] [This message has been edited by stat (edited 11-01-2007).] IP: Logged |

Arch, I am a member of both the APA and AAPP. Both are good organizations and have excellent presentations for examiners. The resources available to you are many and varied, having someone to quality control your exams is one area I found to be very helpful, I'm a one man operation at my department and like QC on my exams. Knowing the examiners at both organizations has allowed me to get QC from very experienced examiners all of the time. It helps me improve my abilities and shows me my own shortcomings. IP: Logged |

Arch: I may well be missing something but I am very interested in your comment about listening to Dr. Rovner. Where did you get this, is this something I could find and finally if all else fails is there any way I could get a copy of your audio disk. I spend a lot of time on the road and listening to something like that would be a great way to spend that alone time.IP: Logged |

It has been years since I spoke that language, and loved it, took me a bit to translate it but was able to. Now we need to consider the Cowboys. They are up there for now and may just make it. IP: Logged |
